UPDATED 2/6/10!
pffffffffft valentine’s day. so silly, right?! yeah, it is…but if you play it right, it can be an excellent opportunity to eat some rare and fancily-presented vegan food!

here is a list of places in los angeles where you can get your vegan valentine’s day fix. don’t do it for the romance; do it for the grub.
native foods will be offering a special valentine’s day menu all day saturday and sunday at all locations for just $9.95! on that menu you can expect chef tanya’s home-made organic tempeh scallopine served with garlic mashed potatoes in a shallot sauce with an adam and eve salad. soup and dessert cupcakes can be added for an extra charge.
sunpower natural cafe in studio city is having a full on 6 course dinner on valentine’s day from 5-9pm. the owner emailed sent me an email with all the info, and it sounds pretty amazing. learn more about here. he also said they’d be remodeling the dining room to be much nicer and more spacious. yay!
madeleine bistro is going all out and offering an epic valentine’s day feast for $125 per person. having eaten a tasting menu prepared by chef dave before, this would be my #1 recommendation on how to spend a romantic holiday. the unique cuisine madeleine offers defies description and is well worth the extra cost. have a look at the menu here.
one world vegetarian cuisine is offering a special v day menu from 2/12-2/14. the romantic, candlelit 3-course dinner is just $19.95 per person!
follow your heart cafe is open on valentine’s day until 10pm, and are offering both brunch and dinner meals. the dinner option is $19.95 per person and includes red pepper bisque, twice baked fingerling potatoes, salad, and tofu cakes. i hear some absolutely incredible desserts will also be on hand.
shojin is offering a 5 course meal on both february 13 and 14 for just $37.50 per person. shojin’s 2009 v-day dinner got some great reviews, so i suggest you book a table before it fills up. shojin will also be offering a special couple course called “Love is in air !!” from Monday, February 15 – Sunday, February 28. $50.00 per couple.
real food daily is offering a four course menu on the 14th at both locations from 5-11pm for $52 per person.
mary’s secret garden in ventura is offering a four course meal with raw options for $70 per person. (reservations are required)
xiv is offering an 8 course tasting menu with live music on the 14th for $135 per person. they always have vegan options on hand, but call ahead and state that you are vegan when you make your reservation. this is definitely where you want to go if you prefer a really, really fancy in a swanky environment. be sure to dress up when you go to xiv; it is a celebrity chef restaurant after all.
veggie grill would be a great low key place to spend valentine’s day. they aren’t doing any specials, but they are open…and they do have an amazing dish called sweet heart fries. sounds like it was meant to be! <3
if you are looking for dessert, kiss my bundt is offering a vegan red velvet cake on fridays and saturdays this month, as well as on sunday the 14th.
if you feel like being social on valentine’s day and don’t want to deal with the mad rush at a restaurant, there’s a v-day benefit for compassion over killing taking place at 2headedhorse in LA. it starts on the 14th at 7pm and goes until midnight. there’s a $20 donation charge that includes drinks, vegan food and karaoke.
i will keep updating this post as i get more info, so be sure to leave any v-day vegan-friendly restaurants in the comments section!
