source in san francisco celebrates vegan pizza day with QUARRYGIRL and VEGANSAURUS PIZZAS (plus more, and discounts, pinch me)!!!!
YES! source is one of my all time favorite vegetarian restaurants (remember that time they made me sign a waiver to eat hot sauce? yeah we spend holidays together—-it’s serious!), and they’re participating in vegan pizza dayon june 30th. not just participating, but they’re offering up a whole new menu of vegan pies, one of which is named after ME and there’s another named after my BFF blog vegansaurus. PLUS if you mention quarrygirl or vegansaurus, you get 10% off one of those specials (not the entire menu)! is this too good to be true?! no, it’s really happening! here’s the lowdown on their vegan pizza day offerings on june 30th straight from the source:
if you know me, you probably know that i’m a huge fan of the even huger soft pretzels at golden road pub. each pretzel is about the size of two human heads and i’ve been known to eat 3 or 4 of them during any given week. they come served slightly crispy and extra salty with a pot of tear-gas-strength house mustard, they are pretzel perfection.
UPDATE: we’ve got the specifics on the karma free pizza deal! on saturday june 30th, they’ll be offering a regular vegan pizza with a portion of garlic bread for a tenner. that’s a steal! thanks fat gay vegan for the info in the comments!
don’t let living on the other side of the pond stop you from honoring vegan pizza day! of course you an can always make your own animal-free pie at home, but now londoners can also get in on the restaurant fun, as karma free pizza in harrow announced on facebook yesterday that they will be partaking in the vegan pizza day celebrations on june 30th.
i’ve never been to karma free pizza, but from what i can gather, they’re the only pizzeria in london offering cheezly pizza on a regular basis. have you guys had cheezly? it’s fantastic! plus karma free has gained a favorable review (which includes multiple pizza, garlic bread, and dough ball photos!) from the respectable UK blog to happy vegans.
as you probably know, saturday june 30th is officially vegan pizza day (that means it’s your duty to eat vegan pizza), and lots of restaurants around the country are offering discounts to help you celebrate! the latest pizzeria to come on board is the new and stylish slice of vegas in las vegas’ mandalay place!
UPDATE: tons of restaurants have been added to vegan pizza day 2012 since this original post! keep checking the quarrygirl.com homepage for updates, because i add them all as they come on board!
hey guys! it’s almost time—-VEGAN PIZZA DAYreturns on june 30th! we’re teaming up again with our friends at Chicago Vegan Foods to bring you a massive celebration of everyone’s favorite food: vegan pizza! last year was crazy (people were having vegan pizza parties all over the country), so let’s make this year even better. the whole point of VPD is to celebrate the awesomeness of vegan pizza. have a vegan pizza potluck with your pals, go on a vegan pizza crawl to various different restaurants, order an obscene amount of vegan pizza delivery…you get the idea! same as last year, EMAIL ME YOUR VEGAN PIZZA PHOTOS and i will post them on the site!
to help you celebrate, several restaurants are offering vegan pizza deals! go get them all! below is a list of the confirmed restaurants so far, and i will update this site as more info becomes available, so keep checking…
if you follow the vegan news, you’ve probably heard the internet murmurs about beyond meat (aka savage river farms) - a new revolutionary plant-based chicken made from soy and pea powder that’s poised to shake up the industry. it has received press from the likes of NPR and mark bittman, and unlike the other faux meats available at the moment, this stuff tastes real enough to fool omnivores. well lucky me, i got to try it before it hit the market, and i can safely say: BELIEVE THE HYPE!
i can’t believe it has already been a week since this year’s LA Vegan Beer and Food Fest. such an amazing day; we can’t wait for the next one! huge thanks to the roxy and tony’s darts away…plus all the breweries, bands, food vendors, and volunteers for making this day possible. here are some snaps of the event. unfortunately this is just a small slice of the fest—-i didn’t get pictures of everything. trust me, you don’t wanna miss the next one.
i am so excited for the LA Vegan Beer and Food Fest on saturday…especially since M Cafe, one the best vegan-friendly restaurants in Los Angeles, is making a generous donation of grub for the volunteer after party!!

let’s break it down: there are 2 bars in los angeles that i know of where you can get gigantic soft salty pretzels to soak up your beer binge—-pretzels that also happen to be vegan. i’m talking about golden road brewing in atwater village (or is it glendale?) and bruhaus on wilshire. both of these places do amazing pretzels, but i love competition…so let’s pit them against each other! fight fight!
first up, the bruhaus pretz:
super tasty, baked to a crisp, yet cracked because the inside doughiness just wants to explode out. (i’ve eaten this pretzel several times, and it’s always busted!) bruhaus’ bavarian treat clocks in at 9 bucks, and comes with cheese sauce and garden-variety store bought mustard. obviously hold the cheese to make it vegan. i like to opt for an extra side of their homemade “beetchup” (ketchup made with beets!). the salt is a bit skimpy, and i’m a sodium addict—-but still i’d never say no to this pretzel.
next up, golden road:
massive and expertly cooked every time (crispy with its soft and fluffy innards intact!), this dude clocks in at 7 bucks. it’s covered in crunchy salt crystals and served with the HOTTEST MUSTARD i’ve ever tasted (even hotter than my beloved colman’s!!) and for an extra dollar you can add spicy vegan cheese dip. this pretzel is perfect.
while i will continue to eat both pretzels on the regular, golden road brewery is the clear winner. it’s 2 bucks cheaper, the mustard is better, there’s a vegan cheese option, it’s doesn’t look like it has exploded, it’s saltier…AND, the condiments come in silver dishes instead of plastic ones! the little things count.
don’t take my word for it though, go try both pretzels:
bummer!! one of my favorite restaurants in LA, seed bistro, is closing its doors on april 28th. hurry up and eat there before it’s too late.

here’s the official word on why seed is shutting. SUCH A SHAME!!!i hope i have a chance to sneak in one last meal at the wilshire location.
Chef Eric Lechasseur would like to THANK the friends, family, diners and supporters that have arrived at Seed Bistro over the previous months for your love, generosity, and support. It has been a true labor of love for us to pursue our dreams. However, we have received surprising notice from our former business partners in Japan that this location will be closed, effective April 28, 2012. After great thought and consideration, we have elected to abide by their decision and cease operations at this location. We have already begun the process of scouting a new location, a location that will include the restaurant as an integral piece of a lager health and wellness center, as per our original vision for Seed Bistro. As details arrive, we hope to share them with you as soon as possible. Again, we thank you sincerely for your very generous support of Seed Bistro.
PLEASE NOTE: Seed Kitchen (1604 Pacific, Venice CA) REMAINS OPEN DAILY - Please stop by SOON and say HELLO. (www.seedkitchen.com | 1604 Pacific Ave Venice, CA | 310.396.1604).
listen angelenos: this weekend you have not one, but two opportunities to be rollin’ in jackfruit tacos. plant food for people, one of this year’s LAVBF vendors and soon to be LA’s only vegan drive-thru restaurant, is serving up mexican eats in highland park on both saturday and sunday! on top of insane tacos that i can vouch for, plant food for people also rocks the homemade hot sauce like you wouldn’t believe. they’re a family owned business that cooks up their recipes from scratch with tons of flavor and no processed ingredients. here are the flyers:
we’ll need some friendly people to work through the fest pouring beers, help clean up, and then celebrate with us at an on-site after party. all volunteers will get a free LAVBF shirt and commemorative glass. please email us if you’re interested in helping out!
we’ve had the best volunteers for the past two years, and i’m sure this year’s crew will be just as awesome. can’t wait! hit me up!
I had the pleasure of working alongside Christine Oppenheim at a vegan restaurant for over a year and learned of her ventures in the catering/cooking lessons world. Before I quit my job at this restaurant I shall leave nameless, I saw a vegan fruit tart that Christine made for a frequent customer. That’s when I inquired about making a cake for my mom’s birthday. Christine happily brainstormed some ideas with me and we settled on this delicious chocolate with coffee buttercream frosting double layer cake (all vegan and organic of course!). My mom loved this cake so much, describing it as “not too sweet, decadent and perfect.”
