Absolutely obsessed with Basilico in London. Gigantic, wood-fired, 18” pies covered in vegan cheese, delivered straight to my door. I can’t get enough of this place. If you are ever in London, definitely check this place out as it’s the best vegan pizza in town.
Oh, and the real kicker: they don’t charge extra for vegan cheese!! I am in love.

Stopped by Venn Street Market in Clapham this weekend to get a taste of London’s all vegan hotdog stand, The Mighty Fork!!! I tried the chili dog and the yasai dog (topped with Japanese curry!), both of which were phenomenal. If you are ever in London, definitely track this place down…the ingredients and preparation are top notch and these dogs will win over all sorts of eaters.

the veggie-lover’s sriracha cookbook arrives with epic LA launch party

i have been anxiously anticipating the veggie-lover’s sriracha cookbook ever since i was lucky enough to test a few of the recipes back in summer 2012. my copy finally arrived here in london a couple days ago and it’s even more beautiful than i imagined. filled with gorgeous color photos, it packs 50 ridiculously tasty-sounding vegan recipes that revolve around my all time favorite condiment: SRIRACHA. we’re talking beer-battered fried avocado tacos with sriracha curtido, jackfruit “pulled pork” sandwiches with pickled red onion, and fiery pho chay just to name a few.

the official release date for the cookbook is july 2nd (tomorrow!), and to celebrate, author randy clemens is throwing an epic sriracha-themed LA launch party at golden road brewing. GOD I WISH I COULD GO TO THIS. not only does the menu look fantastic, but david tran (founder of huy fong foods!!) will be in attendance with special limited edition bottles of cock sauce printed with “The Veggie-Lover’s Sriracha Cookbook — July 2, 2013” for everybody who purchases a book that evening. I WANT ONE, IT ISN’T FAIR!

I’m beyond proud to announce that The Veggie-Lover’s Sriracha Cookbook will be released on July 2nd, and naturally, I’m throwing a big party to celebrate.

Join me and a bunch of people with exceptional taste at Chloe’s, the semi-private club at Golden Road Brewing in Los Angeles. We’ll have tasty grub and splendid beers to fill your mouth-hole, and sweet bluegrass tunes to serenade your ears. 

Try some of the following dishes from my book expertly prepared by Golden Road’s Executive Chef Adam Levoe: 

  • Not Your Mama’s Party Mix 
  • Southeast Meets Southwest Lettuce Cups
  • Burning Thai Bruschetta
  • Edamame-Sriracha Succotash

HAPPY VEGAN PIZZA DAY, GUYS!!! best holiday ever. when we started vegan pizza day two years ago with the good folks at chicago vegan foods we had no idea it would catch on like this—-becoming an international holiday celebrated by billions of vegans worldwide. hope you all are eating the hell out of some vegan pizza today, whether it’s homemade, delivery, eat-in, or store-bought…how fucking rad is it that vegans now have all those options?

VIDEO! quarrygirl presents clara’s cakes! a teenage-run vegan bakery in LA.

you’re probably already familiar with teenage baking sensation clara polito, who owns and operates her own vegan business in los angeles called clara’s cakes…after all we’ve posted two recipe videos with her in the past. clara went vegan at the age of 12, and frustrated with the animal-free dessert options in her area, she decided to learn how to make her own treats. four years later, she’s got her own bakery with a menu that wows all kinds of eaters. in today’s video, we sat down with clara at her home in LA and learned about her most delicious creations and why she went vegan in the first place.

today’s episode of quarrygirl presents features m cafe de chaya, my favorite spot in los angeles to get decadent yet healthy food. the restaurant focuses on contemporary macrobiotic cuisine, and other than fish, the entire menu is vegan. whether you’re craving a hearty burger, a slap up breakfast, or something light like sushi or salad, m cafe has it all.  we caught up with chef lee gross to talk about healthy eating and the best dishes for everyone at m cafe. check it out!

vegan carrot dog at fritzi! it’s crazy!

this is definitely a new addition to my “OMG YOU MUST EAT THIS” list of food items in los angeles. hat tip to randy clemens from la mag for telling me about it…because i’m officially smitten with the vegan option at fritzi dog in the fairfax farmers market. it’s made from an actual carrot (can you wrap your mind around that?!)—-but not just any carrot, a special carrot marinated in special stuff and cooked in special ways. check out the la mag story for more about the process. 

technique aside, the carrot dog blew my mind. it was soft and flavorful with vegetable toppings, spicy mustard and sriracha ketchup (!), served on a fluffy bun. a word to the vegans: only the parker bun and gluten-free bun are suitable for us. the others contain egg or dairy.

get ye to farmers market and try this thing. just trust me.

i’m super excited because today’s video is on our favorite pub in los angeles, tony’s darts away. many of you are probably familiar with the numerous meatless sausage options at tony’s…but did you know about the long list of inventive rotating daily specials, most of which are vegan? we caught up with chef randy st. clair and learned how he makes traditional meat offerings vegan, as well as his favorite vegetable based dishes. if you haven’t been to tony’s darts away yet, definitely check it out. the food and beer cannot be beat.

oh, and don’t forget to buy tickets to the upcoming LA vegan beer fest that we’re throwing with tony’s and the roxy! it’s gonna be the best vegan event of the year.
